Everything You Need To Know About Somfy’s Dual Battery Wands

Somfy offers a wide range of power options for motorized window coverings, from plug-in power to wired motors. A popular option is Somfy’s WireFree™ motor range; a convenient way to power motorized blinds and shades. Since these motors run on battery power, there’s no need for an electrician to install and there are no wires to be hidden.

The WireFree motor range offers the ability to combine battery wands to create dual battery wands. Below is what you need to know about dual battery wands, including how to create a dual battery wand.

What is a dual battery wand?

A dual battery wand is simply two reloadable battery wands connected with an included Y harness directly to the motor. Dual battery wands extend the lifespan of the battery power to your motorized window covering, meaning you have to change batteries less often.

How can I connect two battery wands together?

Interested in creating a dual battery wand? The process is fairly simple. You can connect two battery wands by using a Y harness.

The Y harness has a “female end” which connects to the extension lead or motor and “male ends” which connect to the battery wands. To use the Y harness to connect two battery wands together, you first need to remove the extension leads from the reloadable battery wands. Then you need to connect the male ends of the harness to the female connector on the battery wands.

You’ve now created a dual battery wand for your Somfy WireFree motor.
