What type of batteries are used with Somfy Wirefree motor systems?

Somfy WireFree™ motors are a great way to power your motorized shades and blinds. With WireFree motors you don’t need an electrician for installation and you don’t need to worry about hiding wires from view.

WireFree motors run on batteries, and depending on the Somfy WireFree motorized product you choose, you may have to re-charge your motorized shade, battery pack, or replace your disposable batteries. This is why it's important to know which type of batteries your Somfy WireFree motorized shade system uses.

Some examples of Somfy WireFree motorized solutions include:

Lithium-ion Embedded Battery Motor:

This new innovative range of motors incorporate a built-in Li-ion (rechargeable) battery, therefore there is no need to purchase new batteries when the power is depleted. Simply plug-in a designated charger (sold separately) and your motorized shade will be running again in no time at all. What’s more, there is no need for discarding batteries.

Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery Pack:

A self-contained battery pack external to the motor provides rechargeable power, eliminating the need to purchase and discard batteries.

Battery Tube with Replaceable Lithium AA (8 cell) Batteries:

Allows replacement of AA batteries once power is depleted. If you’re using a system that requires a battery tube, AA Lithium-ion batteries are highly recommended. In general, each battery wand will need 8 AA batteries.

If you need help replacing the batteries in your Somfy-powered products, watch the below video (or read this blog post) to find out how to replace the batteries in your Somfy battery wand:

The Somfy WireFree™ Solar Pack, however, is powered with different batteries than the regular battery tube. The solar pack utilizes Ni-MH battery technology, and these batteries must be purchased from a Somfy retailer.

If you experience an issue recharging the batteries of your Sonesse® Li-ion motor range blinds or shades, there might be an issue with the battery. This should be done through a trained professional, Somfy Expert, or retailer. You can visit our Support Page to contact Somfy.
